S4830 Has Been Introduced
Senate Bill S4830 would restore bicycle treatment for qualifying low-speed electric bicycles and e-trikes while maintaining regulations for faster motorized bicycles. S4830 is proposed legislation, not yet law.
What S4830 Would Change
Licensing, Registration & Insurance
Remove driver licensing, registration, and mandatory motor-vehicle insurance requirements for qualifying low-speed electric bicycles.
Faster Motorized Bicycles
Maintain separate regulation of faster motorized bicycles.
Insurance Protections
Address applicable homeowners and renters coverage and provisions of the Unsatisfied Claim and Judgment Fund Law.
These are proposed changes. Current New Jersey law remains in effect unless the bill becomes law.
