The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 8 – One Week In and Signs of Momentum

Today marks one full week since New Jersey’s new e-bike law was enacted, and there is still a lot of confusion surrounding what it means for riders, businesses, and manufacturers.

It’s also been a snowy week here. After a major snowstorm, we closed the shop on Sunday and Monday, but even with the weather, things are still moving.

One Week In: Confusion and Conversations

After a week under the new law, many people are still trying to understand how it applies to them. Questions continue to come in, and clarity is still lacking in several areas.

At the same time, there have been some encouraging developments.

Growing Interest From Manufacturers

We’ve been contacted by a few major manufacturers who are now interested in becoming part of the Jesse’s e-Rides story. While it’s too early to share details, these conversations are promising and suggest that the industry is paying close attention to how this law unfolds.

Listening and Advocacy

Another positive development is that a state senator will be visiting us soon to listen and better understand how these e-bike laws affect disabled riders.

I’m grateful that there are lawmakers willing to come in, see firsthand what we do, and have open conversations about the real-world impact of this legislation.

Business Continues, Even in the Snow

Despite the weather and the uncertainty, the shop is still active. We’re continuing to see customers, voicemails are coming in, and the service department remains busy.

We’ve had a surprising number of bikes come in for repair, and work continues behind the scenes — from servicing bikes to reviewing new accessories and equipment.

Looking Ahead

One week in, there’s still a lot to sort out. But there are also signs of progress, conversations happening at higher levels, and continued support from the community.
