The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 22 – Calling on Bike Shops for Data

The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 22 – Calling on Bike Shops for Data

It’s February 11, 2026, and today’s update is directed specifically to bike shop owners across New Jersey.

I’ve had many shop owners and managers reach out asking the same question: “What can we do to help?”

Right now, what we need most is data.

Why Data Matters

As conversations continue with lawmakers and regulators about amending the New Jersey e-bike law, real numbers carry weight. Stories are powerful, but data helps quantify the impact.

That’s why I’ve created a survey specifically for bike shops.

What the Survey Covers

The survey asks questions such as:

  • What percentage of your inventory consists of e-bikes?
  • Do you offer rentals?
  • Have you paused sales or stopped carrying certain models?
  • Have you experienced returns, canceled orders, or lost sales tied directly to the law?
  • Have you seen an overall decline in e-bike sales since the law took effect?
  • What business decisions are you currently facing?

These decisions might include exiting certain product categories, discontinuing higher-speed models, adjusting customer waivers, or shifting toward education-based sales approaches.

We also want to know whether you’ve reached out to local legislators, senators, assembly members, or the governor’s office.

Bike Shop Call – February 12

I’ll be hosting a bike shop-only call on Thursday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

This call is exclusively for bike shop owners and managers who complete the survey.

If you’re interested in participating, email me at jesserides.com with your shop name and contact information. The survey link will be shared, and those who complete it will receive the Zoom link for the call.

Why This Is Important

The goal is simple: bring accurate, measurable information back to the decision-makers who are discussing amendments to this law.

Small businesses across New Jersey are being affected. The more organized and data-driven we are, the stronger our case becomes.
