The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 186 – Report Your Experience

Today marks Day 186 since the New Jersey e-bike law was signed.

As riders across New Jersey continue dealing with the new law and its implementation, advocates are asking riders to do something important: report what happens to you.

The New Jersey Bike and Walk Coalition has created an e-bike resource center where riders can learn about the law, find advocacy resources, and, most importantly, document their experiences.

Report Your Experience

The resource center gives riders two ways to report issues they encounter with the new e-bike law.

The first is through a Google form where riders can share their story, explain how the law has affected them, and upload photos or documents related to their experience.

The second option is an interactive map where riders can document specific incidents at locations throughout New Jersey.

What Can You Report?

The map allows riders to report a variety of experiences, including:

• Registration problems
• Issues encountered at MVC agencies
• Traffic stops
• Citations
• Impoundments
• Local e-bike or scooter restrictions
• Other problems related to implementation of the law

Reports can include details, photographs, and supporting documents, helping advocates build a clearer picture of what riders are experiencing across the state.

Real Experiences Are Already Being Reported

The map already contains reports from riders throughout New Jersey.

Some reports involve registration problems with Class 2 and Class 3 motorized bicycles. Others document traffic stops, citations, and impoundments.

There are also reports showing local restrictions, including areas where e-bikes and scooters are prohibited on boardwalks or sidewalks.

These reports help demonstrate how the new law is being interpreted and enforced in the real world.

Why Reporting Matters

As the law continues to be implemented, individual experiences can help identify patterns and problems that may otherwise go unnoticed.

If you've had difficulty registering your e-bike, been stopped by law enforcement, received a citation, had your e-bike impounded, or experienced another issue related to the law, consider documenting what happened.

The more information advocates have, the better they can understand the law's real-world impact and push for changes where necessary.
