The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 18 – What Bike Shops Can Do Right Now

Today’s update is directed especially to fellow bike shop owners who are trying to navigate the uncertainty created by New Jersey’s new e-bike law.

It’s February 7, 2026, and while the situation is frustrating, it’s important to remember that this is not the end of the road. The key right now is staying engaged, proactive, and visible.

A Message to Other Bike Shops

I’ve been talking with other shop owners across the state, and I know how hard it is to keep your business running while also worrying about how this law may affect you.

The most important thing we can do right now is make sure our voices are heard.

That means reaching out to your local legislators — in every county, wherever your shop is located — and asking them to come see your business.

Why Inviting Legislators Matters

Getting lawmakers into your shop makes a difference. Let them hear the stories directly from you.

If you’re concerned about how this law could hurt your business, tell them that. Show them what you have on the floor. Explain how you educate customers. Walk them through what’s at stake for you as a small business owner.

These conversations matter more than emails alone.

How to Find Your Legislators

You can find your representatives by visiting the New Jersey Legislature website:

https://www.njleg.state.nj.us

From there, click “Find Your Legislator” and use the district map. Be sure to enter your shop’s address, not your home address.

Once you locate your district, you’ll see a list of your representatives. Ideally, reach out to all of them — one at a time.

Making Contact

Filling out the online contact form is important because those submissions are logged officially. In addition, sending a direct email can be very effective.

If an email address isn’t listed, call the legislator’s office and ask for the appropriate contact information.

It may feel tedious, but this kind of outreach is one of the most effective tools we have right now.

Moving Forward Together

This law has affected bike shops, riders, and families across the state. Staying positive, engaged, and persistent is how we move forward.

Put your head down, keep going, and keep advocating for your business and your community.
