The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 17 – When Lawmakers Show Up
Share
Today’s update highlights another important step forward in addressing the problems with New Jersey’s new e-bike law.
On Friday, February 6, Assemblywoman Margie Donlon visited Jesse’s e-Rides to see firsthand how the law is affecting riders, families, and the disabled community.
A Lawmaker Who Understands the Stakes
Assemblywoman Donlon brings a unique and valuable perspective. In addition to serving as a legislator, she is also a physician and physiatrist, with a deep understanding of rehabilitation, mobility, and long-term health.
She clearly understands — and strongly believes — that there should be no barriers preventing disabled individuals from riding e-bikes and e-trikes.
She sees the health benefits, the independence they provide, and the real-world impact these devices have on people’s lives.
Why Her Support Matters
Assemblywoman Donlon made it clear that she is fully engaged in this fight and stands with us.
She also shared that she did not vote for this law, explaining that she believed it needed more time and careful consideration before being enacted.
That kind of foresight matters.
What Comes Next
While this visit was encouraging, there is still important work ahead.
One next step is continuing to apply pressure for broader engagement — particularly encouraging Senator Scutari, who presented the bill, to come visit the shop and have a direct conversation about its impact.
Seeing these issues up close makes a difference.
Your Role in This Effort
This effort has always been about community voices.
If you’re able, reaching out to lawmakers and asking them to listen, visit, and engage can help move this conversation forward.
Momentum is building, and each conversation helps push for the changes that are needed.
