The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 10 – Senator Gopal Visits and Real Fixes Move Forward

Today’s update marks an important step forward in addressing the issues with New Jersey’s new e-bike law.

On January 29, 2026, Senator Vin Gopal visited Jesse’s e-Rides to see firsthand how the law is impacting riders and, in particular, those who rely on e-trikes and adaptive mobility devices.

Seeing the Problem Up Close

It didn’t take long for Senator Gopal to identify the gaps and shortcomings in the current law. After watching a video about Jesse and the importance of e-trikes, he immediately understood how critical these devices are for independence and basic mobility.

We then walked the shop floor together, looking at the full range of bikes and trikes. It became clear that meaningful carve-outs and amendments are needed, especially for riders with disabilities.

Momentum Toward Corrective Legislation

One of the most encouraging outcomes of the visit was Senator Gopal’s response. He emphasized the importance of moving quickly and committed to setting up another meeting within the next ten days.

That meeting is expected to include representatives from the Motor Vehicle Commission, police chiefs from several municipalities, and legislative staff from the majority office who are directly involved in drafting the bill.

The goal is straightforward: to discuss real, practical fixes and begin implementing changes to address the law’s most serious issues.

More Conversations Ahead

While there’s no guarantee that every requested change will be adopted, the speed, openness, and willingness to listen shown during this visit were genuinely encouraging.

In addition, Assemblywoman Margie Donlon is scheduled to visit next week, which means even more attention and dialogue over the coming days.

Your Stories Matter

Over the next ten days, there will be many eyes on this issue. That makes your experiences more important than ever.

Please continue sharing your stories. They help shape these conversations and ensure that the voices of those most affected are part of the decision-making process.
