Changes at Jesse's e-Rides — Day 274, October 20, 2026

NJ E-Bike Law Day 274: Changes at Jesse's e-Rides

October 20, 2026 — Day 274. Today, News 12 New Jersey came to Jesse's e-Rides to interview me about New Jersey's e-bike law and the impact it has had on our business. I wanted to share an important and difficult update about what's happening at our shop.

We're closing our current showroom, not giving up on Jesse's e-Rides

When the e-bike law passed 274 days ago, I couldn't believe it. I stayed hopeful that we could help change it before its requirements went into effect. I've worked alongside advocates, associations, and other people who care deeply about electric bicycle access. We now have a proposed fix bill, S4830, introduced by Senator Raj Mukherji, but the financial impact on our business has already been significant.

We haven't sold enough e-bikes to maintain our existing showroom, so we're preparing to close that part of our space. It's a painful decision. Jesse's e-Rides has always been a happy place, and it still is, but the stress of the past several months has been enormous.

What's changing at the shop?

Our plan is to make the transition in stages. First, we're moving the showroom inventory into our service area in the back, reducing our operating space from approximately 4,600 square feet to 1,700 square feet. That's a temporary arrangement, with access to the space expected through about mid-December.

We're actively looking for another location. One space we're considering is around 1,500 square feet, a difficult adjustment from the showroom we've had.

What we hope to continue offering

We're working to keep Jesse's e-Rides going, although its future form isn't settled. Our focus may include electric tricycles, which are especially meaningful to the disability and special-needs community; a curated selection of e-bikes; and mobility scooters and power chairs.

We're not announcing that Jesse's e-Rides is going out of business. We're doing our best to find a sustainable way forward.
