The NJ E-Bike Law: Day 94 – How to Find and Contact Your Legislators
Share
Today marks Day 94 since the New Jersey e-bike law was signed.
If we want to fix this law, we need to make sure the right people are hearing from us.
That starts with knowing exactly who your local representatives are and how to contact them.
Step 1: Find Your Legislators
The easiest way to do this is by using the New Jersey Legislature website.
Open your browser and search for “NJ Legislature.”
Once you are on the site, look for the option to find your legislator.
One of the simplest tools to use is the district map.
Find your location on the map and click your district.
Each legislative district in New Jersey has:
- One State Senator
- Two Assembly members
These are the three people who represent you at the state level.
Step 2: Get Their Contact Information
Once you select your district, you can view detailed information about your representatives.
This includes:
- Names and photos
- Office contact information
- Direct phone numbers
You can click into each representative’s profile to find everything you need to reach out.
Step 3: Make the Call
Calling matters.
Phone calls carry more weight than emails because they require time, effort, and direct engagement.
When you call, you are not just sending a message — you are making your concern part of their daily workflow.
Even if you speak with staff, your message is recorded and passed along.
What Should You Say?
You do not need to be an expert.
Keep it simple and direct:
- Explain that you are a constituent
- Share how the NJ e-bike law affects you
- Ask for support in fixing or amending the law
If you need help, talking points are available here to guide the conversation. Send these before the call/meeting, have them with you when you talk to your representatives, and leave them or send them after the meeting.
Here is a one-page flyer you can leave, too. It makes the ask very clear with graphics.
Why This Matters
Legislators respond to consistent, local pressure. If they are not hearing from constituents, the issue fades into the background. But when calls come in regularly, it stays on their radar and becomes something they have to address.
This is how change starts.
